A MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER

“The Old High Church, the original parish church of Inverness, is a building we hold in trust for all the citizens of Inverness. This historic building, on a site dating back to St Columba of Iona, has played an important role in the life of this community for centuries.”

“It is also blessed with an organ of world-class standard. ‘Father’ Henry Willis (the father of the sons who followed) was the greatest organ builder of his generation. Our Kirk Session has taken the decision to restore the organ to its original condition, to give Inverness one of the finest pipe organs in the Highlands.”

“This was not a decision taken lightly. This is not just about the restoration of a church organ (although it is a wonderful instrument), we see this project as the catalyst for a process of opening up the Old High building to visitors to our city and to the local community. We would like to use the building much more than at present, not just for worship, but for concerts and a celebration of the Arts. We want the whole building to sing of Inverness and of the Christian story. We hope that various trusts, foundations and grant-giving bodies, and generous benefactors, will help us to make the vision a reality.”

Rev Peter W Nimmo, BD, ThM.
